Is Rotisserie Chicken Healthy Or Not?

I’m willing to bet you’ve probably eaten a dinner that looks something like this at least once or twice in your life: a piece of rotisserie chicken accompanied by a side of peas and mashed potatoes. Am I right? (If not, congratulations on your exotic eating habits!)

Rotisserie chicken is so popular, in fact, that each year, Costco sells 60 million of them alone, according to Fortune. But is the classic dinner choice actually good for you—or should you swap it with something else?

Good news: Rotisserie chicken is actually pretty healthy.
According to Abby Sauer, RD at Abbott, rotisserie chicken is super high in protein, which is “an essential nutrient used to build cells, tissues, muscles, bones, and organs, and is a key factor when it comes to developing healthy eating habits,” she says.

Aiming for 25 to 30 grams of protein at each meal (which is the equivalent of a four-ounce serving of rotisserie chicken), is a great way to keep your hanger at bay and support muscle growth, she adds. And it’s not all about the protein, rotisserie chicken also contains trace amounts of iron, calcium, and vitamin A.

Here’s a complete nutritional breakdown of rotisserie chicken, per skin-less thigh, according to the USDA:

Calories: 183

Fat: 10 g

Saturated Fat: 3 g

Carbohydrates: 0 g

Fiber: 0 g

Sugar: 0 g

Protein: 23 g

Sodium: 318 mg

But there are some downsides.

Rotisserie chicken itself isn’t the problem, since it’s loaded with high-quality protein and important minerals. But depending on how it’s seasoned, the chicken may be incredibly high in sodium. “Sodium is a critical electrolyte that, along with potassium and chloride, helps to deliver water t

o your body’s cells,” says Sauer. “But too much sodium in your diet can be unhealthy.” To minimize potential sodium, opt for an unseasoned version, if available.

Everything you need to know about Milk Allergy: Cause, Symptoms & Treatment.

Have you heard of milk allergy? It’s one of the most common food allergies in children. A lot of us stay away from milk or milk products without actually knowing if we’re allergic or not.

Milk Allergy is an abnormal response by the body’s immune system. The immune system reacts to the milk’s proteins and generates a variety of symptoms.

Many people get confused between lactose intolerance and milk allergy. However, they are completely different.

Lactose intolerance is due to the body’s reaction towards lactose present in milk. It is because your body does not have enough lactase, which is an enzyme, needed to break down lactose. On the other hand, milk allergy is the reaction to proteins found in milk.

Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston news: Are the old couple reuniting again?

Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt are giving a second chance to their romance. The two have broken up with their respective spouses officially and their romance has been growing since then. According to the recent reports, the two often text each other and have already rekindled their interest.

Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston: Love story so far

Jennifer and Brad realized that they still have feelings for one another when they were reunited at the 50th birthday celebration of “Friends” last February. The two have started exchanging intimate texts since then and even went on trips together. According to some sources, it is said that Jen never stopped loving Brad.

She’s overjoyed that they’ve secretly reunited and are now planning a new future together. They started texting about the past and what went wrong in their marriage.

Rumor has it that Brad apologized to Jennifer for everything that happened in the past. He was resentful and took the entire blame for all his past actions. He said that the therapy helped him to realize his mistakes and bad behavior.

Moreover, Brad told Jenifer that he wasn’t nice to her during their marriage. He has promised that he won’t keep secrets from her anymore. The actor won Jennifer’s heart once again and asked for forgiveness.

There are claims that stories about Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston are nothing but fabricated stories. The two are too focused on their careers that they wouldn’t like to date anyone else for now. Brad Pitt is having a tough time dealing with his divorce with Angelina Jolie. So it is likely that these stories may actually be fabricated.

Fani-Kayode to Lamido: Only those who support Islamisation agenda’ll oppose Obasanjo

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode on Sunday blasted former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido for criticising former President Olusegun Obasanjo over his comment that Boko Haram and herdsmen were fighting to islamise Nigeria, saying that only those who supported such idea would criticise the ex-president.

Fani-Kayode said heard one or two people Lamido were not too happy with what Obasanjo said and had called him out for saying it.

“That is sad and unfortunate because Obasanjo has done more for the core north, Lamido’s Fulani tribe and Nigerian unity than any other former President or Head of State in our history. He also fought in a civil war to keep the country together.

“Why should Sule be upset about Obasanjo exposing Boko Haram? His comments were directed at Boko Haram and their agenda. Is Sule a closet member of Boko Haram now? If he wants to continue to defend Boko Haram he should continue.

“For anybody from the core north to call Obasanjo names for speaking the truth and baring his mind over what is unfolding in Nigeria today tells you how blinded by power, insensitive and callous some of these people are. It is only those that subscribe to the Fulanisation and Islamisation agenda that will criticise or oppose Obasanjo’s observation and describe him as “a bigot” for making them,” he said.

Fani-Kayode in a statement on his Facebook wall said what Obasanjo said was timely and necessary and that millions were commending him for it, saying that he spoke the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

He stated that Obasanjo remained the only politically active southern and Middle Belt leader who understood what was really going on, the grave danger that “we are in and what lies ahead. He is deeply courageous and his latest contribution that there is an agenda to Fulanise West Africa and Islamise Africa says it all.”

“Obasanjo needs say no more. History and posterity will be kind to him for speaking the bitter truth and saying what almost every other southern and Middle Belt politician and leader knows to be true but is too timid and too scared to say publicly. With his latest contribution he has vindicated yours truly and many others. I saw this coming in late 2013 and I told the world. Nnamdi Kanu saw it coming in 2014 and he told the world. Asari Dokubo saw it in 2015 and he told the world.

“Afenifere, OPC, YOLICOM, PANDEM, MEND, the Middle Belt Forum, the Niger Delta Avengers, IPOB, MASSOB and Ohaeneze saw it in 2017 and they told the world. The Christian Elders Forum, CAN and the Church saw it in 2018 and they told the world.

“Sadly the world refused to listen, left us on our own and, instead of rising to the occasion and confronting the evil, Nigerians went on bended knee to the powers that be and acted as if they were not saddled with a major problem that was bound to eventually consume them all. Now they know better even though most of them are still in denial,” he added.

Fani-Kayode said: now they must live with the consequences of their indifference, ignorance, cowardice and stoicism. What a pity. It is a tragedy of monumental proportions that a nation that is so blessed with extraordinary human and mineral resources should end up going this way.”

Aviation minister inaugurates re-modelled Ibadan Airport terminal

The Minister of State for Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika, on Saturday inaugurated the rehabilitated multi million naira Ibadan Airport building.

Sirika said at the inauguration that the airport was vital to the socio economic activities of the South West Zone, adding that the Federal Government was aware of its critical importance.

”This city of Ibadan is indeed a pillar city in West Africa, just like Kano and the importance of Ibadan as a city, its environs and the rich history, culture, tradition, trade, commerce and the size of the population are too important to be ignored.

”Against this background, the Ministry of Transportation and Aviation decided to rehabilitate the Ibadan terminal building and some other associated works, including the perimeter fence of the airport so as to recreate the activities around the airport and return it to its past glory, ” he stated.

”We have achieved this feat as part of the 157 projects that we undertook during this administration and we completed 134 of them with this as one of them,” he added.

He promised that government would continue to embark on projects that would uplift the standard of the aviation industry.

Mr Victor Akinyelure, the Ibadan Airport Manager, said that the airport was under utilised, adding that the renovation would enhance its growth.

”Ibadan has a lot of potentials and upgrading the airport will make us to operate actively.

”When I came on board with my management team, we did our survey and we discovered that more than 3,000 people travel from Ibadan to the South East, including Enugu, Port Harcourt, Imo and so on.

”We also discovered that more than 2,000 people travel from Ibadan to all these West African countries.

”What we are now looking at is how this airport can capture about 50 per cent of those people and it will be good for us,” Akinyelure said.

The manager, who also disclosed that the airport runway was 2,400 by 60 meters, said it needed to be extended to be able to accommodate larger aircrafts.

”Apart from that, we also believe that they will get us the Instrument Landing System (ILS) which is very critical to safe landing and so many other things,” he stated.

In his remarks, Sen. Olusoji Akanbi representing Oyo South Senatorial District, said efforts were being made to ensure that Ibadan Airport functioned at full capacity like those in Lagos and other cities.

Akanbi, who commended the ministry for the rehabilitation work, urged government to do more to enable pilgrims fly directly from Ibadan.

He also noted that upgrading the airport would de-congest Lagos Airport.

The Federal Government says the seventh edition of the Nigerian Essential Medicine List (NEML) and Essential Medicine List for Children (NEMLC) will be inaugurated in September.

The Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole, made known at the stakeholders meeting for the review of the Approved Patent Medicines List (APML) on Saturday in Abuja.

Adewole noted that its inauguration would ensure access to quality healthcare and curb chaotic drug distribution.

The meeting was organised by the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) in collaboration with Pathfinder International and Partnership for Advocacy in Child and Family Health @Scale Project (PSN-PAS@scale).

The minister said that the list when inaugurated would serve as a guide for those in pharmaceutical sector on the type of drugs they could stock and sell in their premises.

He was, however, represented by Mrs Beauty Okologo, Head of the Pharmaceutical Services Division, Food and Drug Services of the FMoH and Secretary Essential Drug Review Committee

The minister noted that the activity would ensure universal access to quality healthcare especially for those at the grassroots.

He specifically noted that the Patent Proprietary Medicine Vendors (PPMVs) would be restricted to sales and stocking of drugs in their respective tier lists.

Adewole added that the PCN based on the Approved Patent Medicines List (APML) under the EML has classified the PPMVs into three tiers to ensure strict supervision and regulation of services provided by the groups when the list was fully implemented.

According to him, the PPMVs have come to stay because they address issues of access to essential healthcare especially in hard-to-reach areas so there is need for them to be educated in order to understand the drugs they stock and administer.

He emphasised that the tier system would actually curb the menace of drug abuse due to the fact that the PPMVs were not to go beyond their list.

According to Adewole, presently they are supposed to stock over-the-counter medicine although they go beyond that to the extent of carrying out clinical practices.

“So there is need to regulate the practice of the PPMVs and the PCN now came up with these tiers accreditation so that they will be able to regulate and supervise them.

“Tier one is for those people that have the qualification of school certificate and do not have any formal knowledge on health.

“Tier two is for those that have knowledge on health like the nurses and other health personnel that might wish to open PPMV store.

“While tier three are for pharmacist technicians trained by pharmacists in health institutions and health technology.

“The National Drug Formulary, Essential Drug Review Committee has the statutory mandate to come up with the list of medicine that the PPMVs stock and sell in their environment,” he noted.

Adewole said that the meeting was set aside for the PCN to update stakeholders on the tiers accredited list of the Patent Proprietary Medicine Vendors.

He however called for the support of partners in ensuring the actualisation of the inauguration of the NEMLC and EML.

Adewole further assured the masses of government commitment at ending the chaotic drug distribution that ensured access to medicine which lead to drug abuse.

The PCN Registrar, Mr Elijah Mohammed noted that with the new medicine list various tiers of PPMVs would have different lists that allowed them to provide for clients that came to their facilities.

Represented by Emily Olalere, Director Pharmacy Practice of the council, the Registrar said: “There is going to be training for the accreditation system if it becomes operational, so there is a curriculum in form of when clients can be giving these drugs.

“In this new list, emphasis is on referral, the PPMVs should be able to refer to the pharmacist and to the Primary Healthcare facilities when the need arises”.

Dr Farouk Jega, Country Director, Pathfinder International, said that the private sector when properly trained, supervised and provided with commodities could provide quality services that would lead to a drastic reduction in maternal and child mortalities in Nigeria.

Jega identified strengthening the PCN’s Approved Patent Medicines List for PPMVs as among the first steps toward achieving the goal.

“We are, therefore, committed to supporting PCN and other government agencies to ensure there is increased access to quality health care services by Nigerians.

“Especially those in hard-to-reach communities where the Community Pharmacists (CPs) and PPMVs are domiciled,“ Jega added.

Elections 2019: Atiku, PDP Ask Justice Bulkachuwa To Step Down

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar have formally filed a motion asking the president of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa to step aside from the panel that will hear and determine their petition, challenging President Muhammadu Buhari’s election.

In the motion filed on Friday, the applicants alleged that Justice Bulkachuwa is disqualified because of her filial and biological relationships with two APC chieftains.

In the motion signed by the PDP’s lead counsel, Livy Uzoukwu, the applicants averred that Justice Bulkachuwa is the wife of Adamu Mohammed Bulkachuwa, a prominent card-carrying member of the APC and the Senator-elect for Bauchi north senatorial district on the platform of the APC.

The applicant also alleged that Justice Bulkachuwa is the biological mother of Aliyu Haider Abubakar, a prominent card-carrying member of the APC who was also a gubernatorial aspirant in Gombe state at the last general election on the platform of the APC.

The PDP and Atiku, therefore, demanded that because of these relationships, there is every likelihood of bias if Justice Bulkachuwa remained the head or even as a member of the panel.

The PDP also referred to the remarks by the Court of Appeal President at the inaugural sitting of the panel, to the effect that “elections are held in Nigeria every four years into elective positions.”

No matter how well the election is conducted, there are bound to be complaints.

According to the applicants, by making this remark, it would appear that Justice Bulkachuwa had already prejudged the presidential election as well.

The application is expected to be heard on May 22.
