On Friday, Kelly Clarkson delivered a rendition of Kacey Musgraves’ “Rainbow” on The Kelly Clarkson Show.
Performing her recurring Kellyoke segment on her talk show, the host, 38, sat alongside her musical director Jason Halbert on the dimly lit stage and began crooning Musgraves’ hit song.
“When it rains / It Pours,” she sang. “But you didn’t even notice it ain’t rainin’ anymore / It’s hard to breathe when all you know is / The struggle of stayin’ above the risin’ water line.”
And just a day before her cover of Musgraves’ hit, the American Idol alum put her own smooth spin on Drake’s 2013 track “Hold On, We’re Going Home.”
The powerhouse singer crushed the rendition with help from her band, Y’all, who stood behind Clarkson as she took center stage in a long black dress.
The mom of two, 38, began the cover similar to the original track before adding her own twists to the song, which included several belts and riffs.
She quickly transformed the laid-back song from Drake’s Nothing Was the Same album into an upbeat R&B jam.
On Wednesday’s episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, Clarkson covered Selena Gomez’s “Rare” for its Kellyoke segment — and the “Lose You to Love Me” singer loved it.
Wearing a dark purple gown, Clarkson belted the track’s post-breakup lyrics for a soulful, yet upbeat rendition of the title track of Gomez’s 2020 album.
Reposting the performance on Twitter, Gomez shared her appreciation for Clarkson and the performance.
