After a long day at the Ondo State PDP primary election, a winner, in the Person of Eyitayo Jegede finally emerged to represent the party in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections.
Eyitayo Jegede clinched the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s ticket for the Ondo State governorship election which is expected to place on October 10. Eyitayo Jegede, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria has emerged as the winner of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Ondo primary election concluded late last night.
Mr Jegede defeated the deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi and six others to emerge as the winner. Mr Jegede who contested against Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressive Congress in 2015 in a controversial election was born to the family of late Chief Johnson Bosede, the Odopetu of Isinkan, Akure, and Mrs C.O Jegede (née Asokeji) from Ipele town, near Owo in Ondo State, Nigeria.
Eyitayo Jegede attended St. Stephen’s “SA” Primary School Modakeke, Ile-Ife and was at Aquinas College Akure from 5 January 1973 to July 1978 for his secondary Education. He was a Senior Prefect at Aquinas College and took active part in Sports in the best traditions of the family. He had his Higher School Certificate Education at Christ’s School Ado Ekiti and was the School Volleyball Captain both at Aquinas College, Akure and Christ School, Ado Ekiti between 1978 and 1980. He also captained the University Volleyball team at the University of Lagos where he had his Law Degree Course between 1980 and 1983.
After completing his Higher Education, he was posted to Yola, Adamawa State for his National Youth service Corps where he started his career as a legal practitioner.
Jegede gathered 888 votes, defeating his closest rival, the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, who polled 657 votes and other six other aspirants.
Other aspirants who contested in the primary election include Eddy Olafeso who had 175 votes, Banji Okunomo had 90 votes, Olabode Ayorinde had 95 votes, Boluwaji Kunlere had 33 votes, Olusola Ebiseeni who had 29 votes and Godday Erewa who had 14 votes.
The total number of invalid votes stood at 64.
With Jegede gathering the highest number of votes in the indirect mode adopted by the party, the Chairman of the PDP Primary Election Committee and Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi declared him the winner of the exercise.
The Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri and other members were present at the venue of the exercise.
Eyitayo Jegede will now compete with the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and incumbent governor, Rotimi Akeredolu in the governorship election which is scheduled for October.
